As I sit here wondering looking back on the experience of our movie TODAY, I cannot help but smile. With each and every production no matter how great or small, you never know what you're going to get. I always say, “It is a crap shoot.” I feel we really clicked on this one and I'm not just playing the result. Everyone involved worked really hard and came prepared, knowing what was to be expected from them and that makes a production flow much more smoothly for example the sound person is there to capture great sound, not direct. The gaffer is there to make the actors look good, and so forth and so on. On a production of any size, one must know there roles. That being said, we were blessed! The actors, I would work with each and everyone of you again, same goes for the crew (except for one of you) just kidding, I would work with Stubbs again. The idea for this story came to me as I was thinking about first love and innocent love that usually occurs in high school. The rest of the story unfolded from there, I just needed to add some conflict and resolution. I played with different scenarios, had different people read the screenplay and give me there opinions. Massaged it a little, discussed the production over Mongolian BBQ, and the rest is history.
Each aspect of a production is important. Casting, crew, location, craft services, etc. You are only as strong as your weakest link. I've always felt this, but in my opinion the most important or most valuable person In a production is the editor. An editor, a good editor can make a good movie look great or a crap movie look good. I've been lucky to have worked with Gerry (Gerald Martin Davenport) over the years on several productions. I've seen him make magic out of nothing. The ol' saying polishing a turd, comes to mind when I've seen him work his amazing talent.
TODAY was an amazing experience that I will treasure forever. Thank you, thank you, a thousand Thank You's to everyone involved. -Brendan Brooks
